Why I love Figma and you should too…

· Marthijn de Vries

At Coffee IT (App development agency, sister company of CD) the epic-center of all units is Figma. The developers can see the UX & UI designs, clients and project managers can leave comments, and the marketing-design always had enough imagery to use for content.

For Coffee Digital, it isn’t that different. As (app) marketeers we’re always working closely with our designers to work on website improvements, advertisement designs, branding and small things like social media templates for ourselves and our clients.

Reason #1 Ready-to-go components save so much time.

Last month, our awesome designers worked on a component-library for Coffee Digital. After we re-did our branding within the first month, we wanted to have a ready-to-go set of components, templates and other ‘visual accents’ to use in all our communication. Without having to reinventing the wheel every time we want to post something on our channels.

We also wanted to keep a really strong connection with the App Stores and their designs. So our designers made their own interpretations of, for example, the Apple App Store Hit lists, an In-App Events or the Play Store 5-star review design. All ready to use. In Coffee Digital Style, even with dark and light mode and including auto-scale.

For our marketing-team it’s really just plug-and-play to use all these components, according to the spec’s of the design system the designers made. How cool is that!

Reason 2: The Figma community is awesome

Within the Figma app, you can browse in the Community-tab for all kind of awesomeness. From website-designs, icon libraries to mockups. Everything you need. Free to use. Just copy the project.

Also, a lot of people made really useful plugins for Figma. Without going into great detail, these plugins I use on a daily basis:

  1. HTML.to.design. Transfer any website to a Figma design. Including layers.
  2. Mockup. It’s a paid plugin, but really easy to transfer your designs into a MacBook, iPhone or any other mobile device.

Reason 3: Figma is the Apple of digital design

The biggest reason, it that Figma is just so damn easy to use. Before joining Coffee IT, I worked with stuff like adobe Photoshop for my designs. If Figma is macOS Ventura. Photoshop is still Windows XP. The UI is spotless and feels premium. And the best part. If you are a team of one. Figma is free :)

Do you also have love for Figma? Let me know!.

See you at the next one! 👋🏻
