I got a woodturning machine (lathe) for Christmas, and I love it!
Every year my mom and dad like to gift my siblings and myself something nice during Christmas. They always think of something meaniful and also out-of-the-box. Last year I got a lathe: a machine which you can use for woodturning.
##how they came up with the idea Last year I spend some time with my dad building a replica Gibson Les Paul guitar. I made a little video of the process, if you want to see it:
During that time together he taught me quite a bit about woodworking. If you read my previous post about the La Pavoni espressomachine I restored, you probably have seen the ugly wooden boilerknob and handles on that machine. All cracked and weathered. Those parts I always wanted to replace with a new set. But unfortunately, La Pavoni sells them for more than €250. Way to much if you ask me.
So, that’s how they came up with the idea for a Lathe, which now has a permant place in my shed.
If your wandering, this is the lathe I got -> https://www.lidl.nl/p/parkside-draaibank/p100339447
Working with your hands
I’m still trying to get the hang of it. It’s way harder than it looks and you need all different types of wood turning chisels. But damn, I really enjoy working with my own two hands. I’m took a deepdive in woodstaning, sanding an all types of hardwood. It’s the perfect opposite of working on my MacBook five days a week. And that something you should prioritize, right? Maybe it’s getting on your bike, walking in the woods with your dog. Or if you are somewhat crazy like me, you go in your little shed and turn wood (or go woodturning, idk).
Happy turning! See you at the next one! 👋🏻
